Another blast of an evening...

While Mount St Helens wasn't as active as Thursday night, it still put on an interesting show last night. There was a large outburst from the crater after 23:40, which also appeared to generate a large plume of dust and steam. See the movies here.

I've been watching the steam and lava collapse events lately, and think I am rather consistently seeing a steam vent on what I think is the northwest rim significantly away from the dome building location. From the Volcano Cam viewpoint, this would be on the right side of the image, just inside the caldera from the mysterious glow which occasionally appears.

I wonder if anybody else has noticed this, and if it might possibly be connected to the glow?

There has been a lot of dust blowing around the crater over the last week or so. When it first started I wondered if it was a new steam plume venting, but it was just dust. I suspect this is just dust/ash blowing up a small crevice and making a small plume as well... just my 2c worth...
